The Timothy Dalton Chat Group
A Review of Sat'day While Sunday by Debra Best

This review is by Sarah-Jane Gwillim who was in this series every week.

"The Sat'day While Sunday series took 10 weeks to shoot, I seem to remember. Part of it in the London TV studios (Thames Television) and part of it in their Manachester studios. It was very concentrated work for those of us (Malcolm, Tim Dalton, myself and 2 or 3 others) who were in every episode. We would travel up to Manachester or down to London on the weekends so there was barely a day off. I think we enjoyed making it, however. Some of the directors were great and there was a lot of humour."

"Malcolm is very easy to work with. Fun and easy-going - but always on top of the work. He is a master of the double and triple take! On and off camera. His character was Frankie, a relatively poor boy. Tim Dalton played Peter, a rich kid. I played Charlotte, a rich girl who became more interested in the poor boy (as opposed to the rich) because he was more interesting and was a "better" person. Each episode had it's own adventure or story, but the underlying theme was the relationship between the girl and the two boys. The serias played at the weekend. Maybe that's why it was called Sat'day While Sunday."

Best wishes,

Sarah-Jane-Gwillim

My Search for Sat'day While Sunday.

I tried to get a copy of Sat'day While Sunday, the serias from London. I wrote many letters to different people and these are the replies that I received regarding it. I would say that it could have been taped over and is no more, which is sad, I guess everything cannot be kept :-

Dear Debra.

Thank you for your comments on our Website.

Regarding your request for information on the Timothy Dalton show produced by Thames Television in the 1960's called 'Sat'day While Sunday'.

Unfortunately we do not have a record of this programme, nor do we hold any material. We will however keep your enquiry on record in case we turn anything in the near future.

Regards.

Thanks for your note on the above.

Your note that filming took place between London and Manchester has resolved the problem: this series would have been produced by ABC Television rather than Thames Television who operated solely out of London.

I guess therefore that the series if not destroyed is with the ABC /Redifusion archive: unfortunately I only have records for Thames Television from start of transmission from the end of July 1968.

Good luck with your search.

Peter.

Dear Ms Best,

RE. SAT'DAY WHILE SUNDAY

As copyright owners of the early ABC Television materials (up to 1969), I am sorry to say that I have never heard of said title. However. a lot of early ABC material was destroyed and tape recordings reused/wiped many years ago. Therefore, I cannot help you.

Finally, I have checked with the British Film Institute and Thames Television (now called Pearsons TV) and neither of them have heard of said title.

Yours sincerely,

John Herron

Manager, Film Library.
